Vijay Deverakonda’s Ranabaali has opened low at the box office. Still, the numbers are better than the trade expected. The film came into theatres with almost no buzz, so even a respectable start counts as a small win.
Everything Was Against It
Ranabaali had a tough road from the start. The film’s theme didn’t connect with audiences, and the trailer and promotional content failed to bring any excitement. By release day, the buzz around the film was very low.
Then came the clash. Jailer 2 released at the same time and opened to positive reviews everywhere. Ranabaali, on the other hand, opened to below par to mixed reports.
Low buzz, weak promotions, mixed talk and a big clash. Normally, a film facing all of this would struggle to even open, and many would crash outright on Day 1.
Vijay Deverakonda’s Brand Saves the Day
This is where Vijay Deverakonda’s star power has kicked in. Even with everything going against the film, his brand has pulled in a respectable opening.
Ranabaali is expected to collect more than ₹15 Cr gross worldwide on Day 1.
How It Compares
The number is about half of what his previous film Kingdom opened to. But it is about 50% higher than the opening of Family Star.
So it’s nowhere close to his best, but it isn’t a disaster either.
The Big Target: ₹75 Cr
Ranabaali needs ₹75 Cr+ gross worldwide to break even. Against a ₹15 Cr opening, that is still a long way to go.
Dasara Is the Lifeline
There is one positive sign. The opening weekend leads straight into the Dasara holidays, which gives the film a few extra days of strong footfalls.
If Ranabaali holds its momentum through the weekend and until Dasara, it can get closer to recovery. If the collections fall sharply after the first weekend, the film will end up as a big failure.
The next few days will decide where Ranabaali lands.
